WEWORK LEVEL 11
Acetate, Carbon Printing
Commissioned by WeWork, 2016
For Amalgamate 2.0 we have introduced an additional, expressive calligraphy print which illustrates the repetitive layers of building blocks known within Hong Kong architecture.
Using the 3D form of the gate as our canvas, we wanted to elevate the prints by transferring them from flat art to structural pieces that work with the existing shape of the gate.
The transparent acetate establishes a new dimension for the prints. It provides the installation with greater depth from both the 3D nature of its construction and through the distorted, organic projections. Placing prints within the confined space the gate, replicates the restrictive space within the city. However the people of Hong Kong are well versed in how to utilise the limited space; each print is layered upon one another to symbolise this.
