WEWORK LEVEL 18
Paper, Carbon Printing
Commissioned by WeWork, 2016
The bespoke graphics designed for WeWork are inspired by the eminent population and density of Hong Kong. With 7.24 million people residing in the city. Although a compact city, everyone within it finds their own place and style to work. We have invited over seven different nationalities to sketch 7.24 million in Chinese calligraphy. These nationalities are all in the city for different reasons; a new experience, a new life or permanent residents. Each interpretation of the calligraphy represents a unique story.
By combining these different styles of calligraphy to form one print for the co-working space, we are representing how the space can similarly bring a diverse group of people together. The numbers are also written in monetary form, suggestive of the finance driven culture. The print is a modern, digital interpretation of the graphic culture of Hong Kong, influenced by the infamous work by King of Kowloon. The mediums of paper and carbon printing have been manipulated to symbolise the layered landscape of the “concrete forest”
